Lennox Scott

Lennox Scott was 10 when he first started working for his grandfather’s residential real estate company painting signs. When he assumed leadership of John L Scott Real Estate at the age of 23, he applied the old-fashioned, nose-to-the-grindstone work ethic he had learned as a boy to grow from a 260 agent, Seattle-based company to a 3,000 agent work force that spans the Pacific Northwest- Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and now just over the border into California.

Like most businesses, John L Scott Real Estate was rattled when the housing market collapsed during the Great Recession. As economic fear pervaded the country, Lennox met an inspiring woman who introduced him to a progressive, innovative perspective that contributed greatly to his leadership and motivational strategy within his company. That woman, Deanna Scott, is now his wife. When Lennox met Deanna, she owned a dog grooming and training business that was flourishing despite the recession. Intrigued by her success, Lennox wanted to know her secret. “It’s simple,” she said. “I am not the recession. I don’t watch the negative news. I concentrate on my clients and how I can help them.

When a situation arises, I never wallow in its negativity; I walk in the positive outcome, and in solutions.”

Looking at situations with this new lens enhanced Lennox’s focus on solutions for success by creating additional perspective for his company. John L Scott had built its distinguished reputation on providing transactional excellence. Now the company began expanding that mantra by determining who they were as a team, which resulted in the company’s collective higher purpose, Living Life as a Contribution®.

John L. Scott now closes more than 34, 000 annual transactions totaling more than $14B in sales volume, and the company is recognized as one of the top 20 residential real estate brands in the United States. Each year, the John L Scott foundation has helped sponsor 30 events that have contributed over $15M to children’s hospitals and healthcare in the Pacific Northwest.

Lennox attributes his company’s impressive success to the integrity and talents of his broker associates, support team, and leadership team and to the progressive, innovative philosophy of higher purpose and positive mindset that has been instilled in every echelon of his company’s culture over the past 10 years. Whether working with a home buyer or seller, each individual’s goal at John L Scott is to contribute to their client’s greater good. One client at a time, the focus is on the possibilities in their lives.

Deanna Scott wrote an inspiring book about her philosophy and the incredible life experiences that taught her the power of “Walking in the Solution”. Titled Speaking the Language of Miracles, the book is required reading for all of the executives, office leadership teams, support teams and broker associates at John L Scott real estate. “It is part of the fabric that helps us be a proactive, progressive and innovative real estate company,” says Lennox. “Using the main concept in the book, walking in the positive outcome, we now use situations like market changes, new competition, business trends, and new technologies to energize ourselves to be pro-active. It's our advanced approach to success.”

Lennox is very involved with the National Association of REALTORS. He is a past Chair of the Large Residential Firms Advisory Group where he remains a member.
